Background[]

Speculation of a collaboration between Tomlinson and Rexha began in March 2017, when the two began interacting on social media. In February 2017, Digital Farm Animals confirmed he had recorded a track with Tomlinson.

Back To You was confirmed by Tomlinson, Rexha and Digital Farm Animals on June 24, 2017. Throughout July, Tomlinson released a series of teaser videos via Instagram, which previewed snippets of the song and music video.

Upon the singles US debut, One Direction became the only band to have all five members achieve a Top 40 solo hit. The song was a top 30 hit worldwide. In 2017, Back To You was certified gold in Australia. In 2018, the single was certified gold in the United Kingdom and platinum in the United States.
