The Ellen DeGeneres Show, often shortened to Ellen, is an American television talk show hosted by comedian/actress Ellen DeGeneres. One Direction has appeared on the show three times, in 2012, 2014 and 2015. Niall appeared on the show as a solo artist in 2016.

Background

The comedy talk show is hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and is aired in the USA. The first ever episode aired September 8, 2003 and there have been 1,700 episodes in total and it's currently on its 11th season. The show has won 32 Emmy awards and numerous other awards. It was announced on March 11, 2013 that the show had been renewed through 2017, which would extend the show through its 14th season. On January 20, 2016, it was announced that the show had been renewed for 3 additional seasons through 2020.

Appearances

2012

One Direction's first appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show was filmed November 9, 2012. The episode aired on November 15, 2012. They performed "What Makes You Beautiful" to open the show. After the performance, Ellen mentioned that her website crashed from all the ticket requests. They discussed Harry's tattoos, who's single, what they look for in a girl, and an additional tour date for Los Angeles in the Take Me Home Tour. The band then played a game with three fans from the audience. One Direction closed the show by performing "Live While We're Young".

2014

One Direction's second appearance on The Ellen Show was November 20, 2014. The appearance was part of the promotional tour for their fourth album, Four. The episode was uploaded to Ellen's YouTube channel on November 22, 2014. The band were asked about illnesses, Taylor Swift, their You & I fragrance and touring.

2015

One Direction's third appearance on The Ellen Show was November 18, 2015 as promotion for their fifth album Made in the A.M. The band performed an outdoor concert for fans, singing "Drag Me Down", "Perfect", "Love You Goodbye" and "Story of My Life". They were also interviewed by Ellen where they spoke about their 2016 hiatus, Zayn's departure and played a game of "Never Have I Ever".

2016

Niall Horan appeared on the show on 26 October 2016, as a solo artist. He performed his debut single This Town and was interviewed by Ellen.
