The song was written by Charles Hinshaw, Zedd, Tristan Landymore and Fabienne Holloway, with production by Zedd. It was released on 6 July 2017, through Interscope Records.

Lyrically, the song describes a man trying to comfort a hurt lover.

Background

After guest performing at one of Zedd's Las Vegas gigs in late 2016, media and fans speculated whether Liam Payne was collaborating with the producer. In June 2017, Payne confirmed they had worked together on a track. Zedd described the song as his definition of a summer song with a "Drake-ish influenced sound" stating: "We created a song I would say is the most urban influenced song I've ever done. It's insanely catchy. I think it's a good balance between where he is going with his solo project and where I'm going with my own music, it's right in between. Without Liam, I might've never finished this song. He really pulled it towards a direction that I would not have, and I love where it is." 

On 3 July 2017, both artists confirmed the single's release date and artwork on social media.
