Girl Almighty is the fifth track from One Direction's fourth studio album, Four.
Background[]
On September 8, 2014, the boys announced the release of their fourth album, Four, on the Today Show. The boys, along with the band account, then tweeted about "Fireproof". On November 17, 2014 the boys announced the new song "Girl Almighty". While many have expressed confusion with the lyrics, it would appear to address the fans and the way the band disagrees with how they are misjudged for being "crazy" or inconsequential. The title could be seen as a collective, all encompassing term for their fan-base. The title has become one of the most popular One Direction themed tattoos.
Minor Controversy[]
Liam angered LGBTQIA+ fans in August 2015, when he remarked before an OTRA Tour performance that the song was about "finding the perfect girl, which most of you can't relate to because you're girls too." He was initially angered by the backlash but eventually apologized on Twitter after the concert and clarified he did not mean anything malicious or homophobic. Perhaps as a form of apology, a few months later during the UK leg of the tour, the stage was lit up with rainbow colored lights whenever "Girl Almighty" was performed.
Liam and Harry have often said they love performing this song live, with Liam saying it is his favorite track from Four.
"Girl Almighty" was performed on the On The Road Again Tour, and during the band's global promotional tour for Four. it was also used in the band's Toyota Vios car commercial.
