Lyrically, the song describes frustration with superficial girlfriends who value possessions over love.
Background
"I Want" was written by Tom Fletcher, and was produced by Richard "Biff" Stannard and Ash Howes. "I Want" is an uptempo pop rock song which features a prominent piano line.
The song was originally penned for Miley Cyrus, who turned it down. It was then offered to Demi Lovato and The Jonas Brothers[1].
Independent singer-songwriter Carrie Hope Fletcher also recorded a version of the song, which was uploaded to YouTube in January 2011[2].
The song is theatrical and Beatles-esque in sound, particularly the beginning staccato piano intro and the retro production of the verse and chorus.
