Jonathan Shone is a musical director for One Direction.
Background[]
Jon graduated university in 2003 and began working as a piano teacher in North London. He decided to move on in 2008 and follow his passion of composition and arrangement. Starting out with N-Dubz, Jon went on to work with VV Brown, Tinchy Stryder, Taio Cruz, Pixie Lott and Marina and the Diamonds.
He held auditions for the three other members of One Direction's band - Sandy Beales (Bass), Dan Richards (Guitar) and Josh Devine (Drums). It came down to two bands, the current one - Band A - and another group - Band B - and the deciding factor was that Band A went to lunch together, not separately. He says “You could be very good, and have it all, but if you don’t look the part, then you won’t get the gig.”
Jon has also co-written songs for X Factor Judge Tulisa Contostavlos.
Trivia[]
- His favourite One Direction track is "Over Again"
- In an interview, he was asked "Can you tell us what your favourite moment on stage is from this tour so far?"
- "Now that’s tricky question, we have had quite a few … my favourite so far would be when Liam Payne pulled down Harry Styles’ trousers during the encore at the end of the show for everyone to see!"
