After only five weeks, Midnight Memories became the biggest selling album of 2013 in the UK, beating Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events.

Since it's release on the 25th of November, One Direction's third studio album, Midnight Memories managed to sell 685,000 copies. After becoming the fastest selling album of 2013, shifting more than 237,000 copies in only seven days, it spent a month quickly gathering more and spending two weeks at the top of the UK albums chart.

“This tops an amazing year for us!” Liam Payne  told OfficialCharts.com. “We're so excited to have the biggest selling album in the UK this year, especially with a record we are all so proud of. We'd like to thank everyone who has bought the album, it really means a lot to us.”

It was a very tight battle between Midnight Memories and Our Version Of Events, Emeli Sande's debut album, which clamed the prize for the biggest selling album last year in the UK. Selling 683,000 copies in 2013, she has managed to sell an incredible total of 2.07 million copies since it's release.

One Direction's 2012 album, Take Me Home (which sold 606,000 copies in 2012) is the twenty-second highest selling album in 2013, shifting 290,000 copies, amounting to a total of 906,000.
