Walking in the Wind is a bonus track featured on the deluxe version of Made in the A.M. It was globally released on November 13, 2015.
Lyrically, it describes moving on from someone and missing them, but knowing they will meet again one day. It is likely to be about Zayn Malik, who left the band in March 2015.
Harry has stated he was inspired by Paul Simon's music, specifically Graceland, while writing and recording this song. He said "The way in which the verse is so conversational and informal, and it's not like melody melody melody - it's like spoken word, and kind of drifts and peaks and troughs. I love [Graceland], and when I listen to it I love hearing the influence from that in this song."
Julian Bunetta talked to Rolling Stone about the track, stating ""That title was born in Japan. Just the title of it and the idea of it. Everyone's different experiences of what they're going through, whether it's this or that, I'd like to think that these songs can apply to more than just [one instance]." He also revealed on Twitter that the lyric "You'll find me in the region of the summer stars" came from a poem his grandmother wrote.
